1984 certainly had it's share of fine moments. Despite Garcia's complacity and his addictions, he still ripped when he was "on"...

1984 is often overlooked and brushed aside, there's no new material or european tours. No acoustic sets and really no legendary runs. The tape sources are good, but the year was business as usual...

The following are some great shows from 84

04-01-1984 HSF and Dew in 2nd set

i download everything from this site as a full show-the variable bit-rate(vbr mp3) format..there is a setting on itunes that you can choose to convert everything to as you import it..i choose aac format, which is a smaller file, takes up less room on the harddrive...eventually you will have to get an external harddrive like i did-my computer's drive quickly filled with just burning my own cds...for downloading from the archive, the external drive is now filling up and i may need another...for 150 GB, i paid like 175.00. good luck, if you need more help, just ask!

Thanks for the tips...I agree w.the assesment of '84 in general but a little digging is worth it b/c it seems Jerry was sometimes in a good kind of trance and would take off into amazing riffs on tunes like Birdsong and especially 2nd set material. I would again encourage any and all to check out 10-12-84 from augusta and just wonder at the jams transgressing between UJB, Space and especially the Playin' reprise that roll into that jaw-dropping Dew. Wish I'd been at that one!
